On 16th and 17th September, we will celebrate 95 years of the Great Western on the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Join us for a weekend of time travelling!
Several train departures from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge and back throughout the day & shuttle trains to Capel Bangor & Aberffrwd.
Dress code: 20’s and 30’s! So that the feeling of time travel can be complete, every member of the staff will be vintage dressed and we will strongly encourage visitors to do the same! We will award the best vintage costume!
Vintage Gallopers will be at our Aberystwyth station for the young and the young at heart! We will be hosting James Noyce & Sons World famous Golden Gallopers, this exquisitely restored fairground ride is one of the finest in the country an was built by Thomas Savage for Welsh showman John Studt. The ride featured in an advert for M & S: HERE
Open workshop at our Aberystwyth station: First chance to see Garatt No60! You will also be able to see what’s going on behind the scenes and meet our Apprentices and Engineers.
Local Artist, Ag Cain, will be exhibiting his artworks. Ag is a prolific painter and illustrator. He worked intensively throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s as a freelance graphics and lettering artist in the Film & TV industry, working on set and prop decoration - both in the major British studios and foreign locations. He recently did incredible artworks for the

Vintage traders will be at our Aberystwyth station, for anyone who would like to shop for something unique.
Actors will be performing scenes on the platforms and on the train, bouncing back through time and allow our visitors to have a glance on what it was to live in the 20’s and the 30’s.
Visiting locomotive "Britomart" - Hunslet 707, 1899 from the Ffestiniog Railway will be visiting the railway for the event and will be hauling the shuttle trains to either Capel Bangor or Aberffrwd.
“Margaret” Hunslet 605/1894 will be running at our Devil’s Bridge station so everyone can have a go at driving a real steam engine.
On Saturday evening, a Jazz night will take place at the Hafod Hotel with buffet, cocktails, jazz music by Chocolat, dance with Aberswing, best vintage dressed and dance contest, travel back to Aberystwyth by coach.
Sorry, the Jazz evening has sold out, but there are plenty of tickets available for all other trains.
Main train: 10:30 am, 12:15 pm, 2 pm, 3:45 pm + 6pm (special train for the Jazz Night at the Hafod Hotel)
Shuttle train: 10 am, 11:40 am (both to Capel Bangor) 2:30 pm (to Aberffrwd)
Thunderbird 4 (passenger service): 8 am

Package 1: £25 adult / £14 child or family ticket available: £64 (2 adults + 2 children) Includes day rover on main train & shuttle train + 1 ride on gallopers + yard / workshop access + entertainment on train and platforms.
Package 2: £14 adult / £9 child
Includes day rover on shuttle only + 1 ride on gallopers + yard / workshop access + entertainment on train and platforms.
Package 3: £5 adult / £3 child
Includes yard / workshop access + 1 ride on gallopers + entertainment on train and platforms.
Extra rides on gallopers after buying one of the packages: £3 on Saturday / £2 Sunday.
AND a unique opportunity to experience a limited passenger service: £40. Includes return on Thunderbird 4 + yard / workshop access (limited number of seats, advanced bookings essential to avoid disappointment).
